Abstract: | In the nineteenth century, the spread of print culture and the growing impact of modern Western education led Indians to participate in the process of the knowledge production. Scholars like Rajendra Lal Mitra (1824-1891), Bankim Chandra Chatterjee (1838-1894), V.K. Rajwade (1863-1926), R.G. Bhandarkar (1837-1925), Akshay Kumar Maitreya (1861-1930) challenged the idea of colonial historians that Indians lacked historical sense. |
