Abstract: At the outset let me say how honoured I am by the request to address the Indian Humanist Union, a full member of the International Humanist Union, on its 50th Anniversary. It is a singular privilege and a big responsibility. I do know that supernatural help has no place in a platform of the Humanist Union, but I would request you today for a temporary dispensation. Please allow me to invoke help from all quarters because the challenging task before me is to give a lecture that is appropriate for the 50th Anniversary of the Indian Humanist Union (IHU), and to speak in celebration of an idea, a movement, and an institution, requires such assistance.
