Abstract: While the issue of gender has received serious attention in the academia and policy in India the same cannot be said in the context of the Northeastern region. There is not only a paucity of studies on women the problem has further been complicated by the stereotype idea that societies in the Northeast are free of gender discrimination. Several factors contributed to this line of thinking.
