dc.description.abstractA critical elaboration on the theme of identity and difference with reference to the Assarnese novel carries with it the presumption that it could be theoretically underpinned as well as empirically analyzed. It would also entail a comparative analysis of a few contemporary Assamese novels, which are stylistically different and deal with different strata of social his tory. The novels thus discussed also deserve to be considered on the strength of their recognized artistic merit, each novel in its own way making a notable contribution to the development of the genre in the Assamese.en_US
