| Abstract: | An argument often presented in literary works is that in a traditional society any type of disability, be it physical, mental or visual, would make it difficult for the disabled person to survive in the world. In a patriarchal set-up, for example, being female is in itself a disability. This has been shown by Bankimchandra Chatterjee (1838-1894) in his novel Rajani (1877) and by Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941) in his short story Subha (1918) |
