Abstract: | The Pali text Kathavatthupakaranam, popularly known as Kathavatthu, forming a part of the Tipitaka, is a Buddhist compendium of debates on matters of theology, philosophy and other issues with various opponents, presented from the Theravada (Sthaviravada)-Vibhajjavada point of view. The Kathavatthu is a leading document of an age of Buddhism when repeated schisms had rent its unity and produced an atmosphere seething with doctrinal debates and controversies. |
