Abstract: | Gandhiji records the deep embarrassment with which he admitted to his Theosophist friends in London that he had read the Gita neither in Sanskrit nor in Gujarati. He said; 'They talked to me about the Gita. They were reading Sir Edwin Arn9ld's translation - The Song Celestial- and they invited me to read the original with them. I felt ashamed, as I had read the divine poem neither in Samskdt nor in Gujarati. "2 These Theosophist friends induced him to read the Gita. The poem struck him as one of 'priceless worth.' Verses 62 and 63 of the second discourse |
