Abstract

Social movements are viewed as a conscious collective effort of the people of any given society or a segment of it to promote or resist change in the social structure. The collective effort of the people turns into a social movement when there is collective mobilization. In this sense the prime object of sociology of social movements becomes the study of the nature of collective mobilization.
