| Abstract: | The term 'reform' is actually problematic. Contrary to common perceptions, it does not have a very long history. On the basis of my k,nowledge of at least two major Indian languages, Hindi and Bengali, I should like to hazard the guess that there was probably no equivalent for this term in the pre-modern history of these languages. |
