| Abstract: | The shoot is the sub-aerial organization, a morphological unit, of the body of a plant from the algae to angiosperms. In the lower plants it is a thallus, but in higher plants, both gametophytes and sporophytes, it is a cormus (see below). The object of the present article is to review the history of the leafy-shoot, and at the same time to elucidate relationships between the leaf and the stem, if there be any. |
